Where to Find a Nice Guy...

Today's Shmuleyism
"A good man, while not easy to find, is possible as long as you look in the right places, and the right places mean venues that foster purpose, compassion, hard work and spiritual commitment."

I love reading Rabbi Shmuley articles on Oprah.com.

Here's what he wrote about where you can find a nice guy. I'm so going to take note! :)

The Best Places to Find a Good Man
  • Churches, synagogues or mosques: "There will you find men with a spiritual disposition," Rabbi Shmuley says.
  • Bookstores: Here, you'll find men who are intelligent, he says.
  • Charity events: Volunteer to work with charitable organizations and attend charity events to find men with heart, Rabbi Shmuley says. "[Charity events] usually draw men with a social conscience," he says.
  • On dates set up by friends: Your friends will most likely be discerning in who they'll introduce you to, Rabbi Shmuley says.
  • In the military: "The military usually draws really good guys," he says. "They're heroes—men with a sense of mission."
  • At work: Rabbi Shmuley says he's not opposed to office romances. "In a serious office are usually serious, hardworking and respectful men who aren't peering down your shirt and they aren't getting bombed at a bar, and they're also right there in your backyard," he says.
  • Libraries: These are quiet, contemplative settings that often attract intellectual guys, Rabbi Shmuley says.
  • Concert halls: Find cultured men who love music at these venues, he says.
  • Weddings: Weddings have a great romantic atmosphere, and commitment phobes usually stay away from them, Rabbi Shmuley says.
  • Lectures and debates: Such events usually attract a higher quality guy.
  • Coffeehouses and poetry recitals: Seek out the sensitive, nice guys who might frequent these places.

Happy First Day of Autumn

YAY! It's the first day of Autumn! Time to pull out the cute boots & fly jackets!
I find that autumn is the best time to look your best.
The nights are always so beautiful!

Yes, you're cheap!

#1 - If you think it's ok to entertain at home on the first date... yes you're cheap! Don't start with the whole, I feel more comfortable at home. Or the best one.. I don't like crowds! Ummm... I don't like crowds either, that doesn't mean we have to be restricted to the confines of your house! I'm not going to lie, during my "young & dumb" days, I settled for the date at his apartment. Now that I am a little bit wiser, I am very much aware of the reasons why he bought me to this house. It was literally...easy access to him. She's here...it's cheaper...she's going to get some drinks...we're going to sit on the couch and watch a movie...and one thing leads to the other! STOP! If we've been dating for a while, yes..of course..a dinner & a movie in the house is fine! However, if we're getting to know each other, staying at home is not the way.

Women, let's be real. We know from DAY ONE if a guy is... "sleep-able." You drew an image in your mind of the both of you an intimate way. 9 times out of 10, you guys don't get to that point...because of course...he says and/or does something stupid! Don't you just hate that?

Then you're back to square one!

But where was I?? Oh yes, being cheap! If you are one of the cheap ones out there, then here are a dating tips (via AskMen.com):

  • The coffee date
Cafes are great for first dates as they're casual and you'll likely only be footing the bill for a couple of lattes and biscotti. Unlike a bar, where one drink can easily escalate into many if things are going well, a coffee date will likely never evolve beyond a single refill. If you can, choose a cafe that is part of a bookstore. The added benefit here is you can position yourself as literati.
Estimated cost: $5-$10. Price may vary depending upon the number of refills and inclusion of biscotti or savories.

  • The hike or bike ride
If you're really hard up, this may be your best bet. Granted, this is only a viable option if you live within close vicinity to a hiking trail. Hiking gives you an excellent opportunity to show off your rugged masculinity. Catch a wild rabbit with your bare hands and barbecue it for your soon-to-be betrothed while trekking through the backcountry.

Estimated cost: $5-$10. You'll want to bring along some water, fruit and other snacks.

  • The art gallery
Most art galleries have one day of the week where entry is discounted (if not free). Take advantage of this opportunity to take your date out for some quality culture. Spend some time reading up on the current exhibits prior to your date. This way, you can at least maintain the faade that you have your finger on the pulse of the art world.

Estimated cost: $0-$10. Ideally, this one is expense-free, but if you spring for a few postcards or a poster, the cost may go up a bit.

  • The picnic
If you don't live near a large body of water, a park will do here. The key is to find a locale that has scenic (preferably awe-inspiring) vistas. If a lengthy drive is required to reach your final destination, all the better. It will provide ample opportunity for you to connect with your date along the way. Only a few simple items are required to make your picnic basket impress: a halfway decent bottle of wine, some brie, bread, and fresh fruit. It's simple (and cheap), but it works.

Estimated cost: $15-$40. The price varies according to how extravagant and decadent you want to be here. Deli sandwiches, chips and water will likely only set you back 15 bucks. Brie, wine and fruit will increase your tab, but impress more.

  • The winery
If you're a neophyte when it comes to wine tasting, you may want to watch Sideways prior so the words "piquant bouquet" roll off your tongue smoothly. For those living far from wine country, another option is a local brewery (which can be found just about anywhere). The alcohol acts as a social lubricant and is typically free (or heavily discounted). If you hit a brewery right around happy hour, you might even score free appetizers!

Estimated cost: $0-$20. This assumes that the tasting evolves into knocking a few back and perhaps a small plate for the two of you to share.

Church - Mt. Zion Baptist Church

What a great experience.
I will definitely be returning next Sunday God willing!

Philippians 4:13 - I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

Church

I'm on my way to church. I'm not going to lie to you friends... but it's been a while. Not a whole year or anything, but it's been a good minute since I've last step foot in church. One of my main issues was finding the right church. I found this church via google - Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
I'm sure it will be fine...
Be back later! :)

Family First

Lately, I've been feeling lonely. I've been sitting here thinking new friends was probably all that I needed! I joined a couple of meetup groups thinking that maybe this will be the answer to all my problems. I wanted to be around people so bad, I was someone else's back up plan! WTF! Basically... if things fall through with their plans, then I can hang out with them. Yes I know it.. I'm tripping! I refuse to be your backup plan! That just sounds wrong...but for some reason I settled for that. But of course, they went on with their plans...and there I was...stuck in the house! :-\ Sucks to be me huh?!

Throughout all of this...I never once thought about the fact that I do have siblings that live in the area. Never once did I say... let me call my sister to see if she might want to hang out! Nope! But you know what...tonight, when I was really in the mood to head to the movies (and I was going to do it alone), I decided to call my sister to see what she was up to. I honestly had no intentions of asking her to go to the movies with me. I told her I wanted to go to the movies, she sorta invited herself! :) But regardless... I'm happy she was there.

I love my family... problems & all!

Review: The Family That Preys

I did it! I went to see the movie! So... here goes my review!

I felt that it was much better than I expected. Very simple movie... yet it had a great meaning to it. Sanaa Lathan played a wonderful role. I'm happy to see Robin Givens acting again :).

My overall grade - B

Top Model - Week 3

I'm upset! Brittney is gone! :( I honestly liked her. Yes.. her picture wasn't GREAT... However, we're in week 3! I know Tyra was not expecting perfection as yet! :\

Whatever the case.. I am still rooting for Sheena & Joslyn (or however you spell that girl's name). I'm just going to need them to calm down a little bit!

I'm not trying to bring this up (because I hate bringing the race card), but ummm... did you notice that the first 3 people to leave were black? There are 2 black people left, and one of them is a guy!

But I won't discriminate against Isis! I actually feel for him/her! Just the look in his/her eyes! He/She looks sad!

Well I'll try to give my Top Model update weekly!
